On June 23rd we performed "Stramash" by Joe Stollery, a piece commissioned to celebrate the orchestra's 10th anniversary. Joe is a composer currently based in Monymusk, Aberdeenshire. He recently graduated with distinction with an MMus in Composition at the University of Aberdeen (2016), where he is currently studying for a Doctorate in Composition with Dr Phillip Cooke.
He has written for a wide variety of ensembles, and his musical interests cover a wide range. As such, his compositional aesthetic stands somewhere between tradition and the avant-garde.

He was twice a finalist in the Carlaw-Ogston Composition Award (2015 & 2016), has participated as an observer at the Cheltenham Festival (2016), and has been commissioned by the Aberdeenshire Saxophone Orchestra, the Aberdeenshire Youth Orchestra and the Geneva-based wind band Harmonie Nautique, amongst others.
