Sunday 7th December 2pm Barthol Chapel Church AB51 8TD

When the Church of Scotland decided to sell their church building in the little village of Barthol Chapel, near Fyvie, the community got together to try and buy it to create a community hub.

While waiting to see how their grant application to the Scottish Land Fund would be received, the group got stuck into starting and running as many community activities as they could think up.

This has been hugely sucessful and gardening clubs, book clubs, games nights, crafters, jewellery workshops, talks and many different music groups are thriving there.

Awards4All provided the startup funding and the groups are paying their way by means of donations.

Barthol Chapel is a tiny village but the catchment area is massive and full of folk of all ages who are finding that a community activity hub is a wonderful asset.

Not long ago the group got the great news that they have been awarded the grant funding to buy the building. Now the long process starts of raising the money to do the renovations.

ASO, together with members of Fyvie choir and Rachel Mackison as conductor, offered our support last Christmas by putting on a joint Sing-along-a-Sax Carol concert as a fundraiser.

There were many requests for a repeat of this and we are delighted to continue our association with such a worthwhile project.
