Richard Scholfield is an award-winning Scottish saxophonist praised for his "silken" sound (The Scotsman) and engaging stage presence. As a professional saxophonist he has toured Scotland, the UK and more widely in Europe, collaborating with various other musicians and ensembles. Richard is also a talented arranger so these tours often feature his own arrangements. He has performed with many of the country’s prestigious orchestras such as the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the BBC Philharmonic. Richard has many years of experience as an educator; teaching saxophone in music schools and working with the National Youth Orchestra of Scotland and National Youth Wind Ensemble of Scotland as a saxophone tutor.
Richard delights in re-interpreting historical works through the medium of saxophone whilst also extending his interest to new compositions. He is passionate about providing saxophonists the chance to play together and his experience and enthusiasm is an asset to the Aberdeenshire Saxophone Orchestra
