This was our first gig with our new music director Richard Scholfield and a chance to try

out our new repertoire and for Richard to try out his new tie!

It can take a bit of time for players and director to get used to each other in a live situation

so this series of small concerts was an ideal opportunity.

Judging by the very positive audience feedback that we received, we are settling down

well together.

June 28th - Ensemble Day

To enjoy a bit of relaxation after the

weekend of concerts we replaced our usual

rehearsal with a day of small ensemble

playing. This gave us a chance to play

different saxes from our normal ones and to

play with people from other sections in the

orchestra.

Apart from this being a very useful learning

experience it was a really fun day

We were divided up into two

different ensembles of various

sizes over the course of the

day so we had a good variety

of pieces and people to play

with

Richard put together some

unusual combinations.

Here is a quintet of sopranos

made up of our bass player,

an alto player, two tenors and

one regular soprano player.

Then, equally unusually, a quintet of baritones comprising one of our soprano players, our music

director Richard himself, two regular baritone players and the newest member of our bass line

who, until recently, was playing alto.
