Today we held a special workshop lead by Mike Brogan from Edinburgh. This was an experiment to see whether it would be a useful extra for the orchestra to invite visiting tutors to run special workshops from time to time. There were 12 participants and sessions were run on various playing techniques, musical styles and small ensemble playing. Several people took the opportunity to play other sizes of saxophones than their usual ones. This lead to an unfeasible number of sopranos but Mike coped extremely well.We also extended this workshop to non-members and Sheila, an oboist from Inverurie Orchestra took the opportunity to come and play saxophone for a change.

The day was interspersed with plenty of refreshments and in the evening, a meal and social playing to round off the day. A good time was had by all and we agreed that this was definitely worth doing again.
